Cairns is the most beautiful tropical town in North Queensland. We took a trip here to spend a few days exploring waterfalls and exploring the Great Barrier Reef. We stayed at the most fun spot ever Gilligan’s, which was a party in itself, and one night they brought in crocodiles and snakes for us to hold!

Blessing of the day: the lovely mate at our hostel let us know the exact route that the tour buses take to each one of the beautiful waterfalls & we got to rent a car and explore at our own pace (driving on the left side of the road for the first time ever!!)

The Great Barrier Reef

We got to spend a day cruising across blue blue waters to reach the reef. We were so excited to find out that you don’t have to be scuba certified to dive here, they just gave us directions on the way over!

Diving for the first time was an insane experience. The biggest piece of advice they told us was: just focus on breathing. There were butterflies in my stomach as they first guided us about 20 feet under water to hang onto the bottom of the boat and get further instructions. After that, we followed the rope attached to the anchor to dive 40 feet under and swim through the reef. This was genuinely one of the most amazing things I’ve ever experienced, as the silence that surrounded was overwhelmingly beautiful and we got to be one with the ocean and sea life.
